I am a new member having nightly episodes of sleep moaning/groaning.  According to all of the research I've been able to find, this is the only site that addresses this issue.  My episodes are so loud and often during every night that I've been "banished to the BAT CAVE" sometimes for up to two years!  Anyone have any such problem, recommendations?:

I have had this problem for over 15 years. It is called catathrenia. You can look it up on wikipedia.

We also have a yahoo group with about 60 other sufferers. Remove the spaces and join us here:

groups. yahoo. com/ group/ catathrenia

No "cure" exists, but there are some suggestions for making it more tolerable. Hope you'll join us.

Hi, I'm new here. My husband does the moaning thing in his sleep. He doesn't do the gasping thing or holding his breath at all, what he does is breathes in normally, but when he exhales, he makes the moan/groan sound. Like, breathing out across his vocal chords. And sometimes, it's so loud like he's yelling out the moan. You would think it would scare him awake, but he has no clue he's doing it at all. I thought it was because he was on his back, but, he does it on his side and when he's on his stomach. Do you think it's the same thing? I mean, I use ear plugs when it gets bad, but, even they don't work. I tell him the next day what he was doing, and he laughs and then makes the sound on purpose just to bug me.. but ya know what??? It's not funny!!!!!!!!!!!
