Hi militia1360;
Although your situation sounds a bit extraordinary, many, many of us can't stay awake when reading (ie: my wife). It is unusual that it's during the day as well, but I don't think it's anything serious IF it doesn't happen during any other time (like driving a car). I ONLY WISH I could fall asleep reading ... it's much better than not falling asleep at all.
Cheers,

I even break my own "sleep hygiene" rules, and read in bed for about an hour before lights out. I find it relaxes/de-stresses me.....

It is normal to fall asleep during reading book. Most people have this kind of habit. Actually reading book helps us to fall asleep easily. Some people find it as problem. But for other people who has difficulty sleeping, find it as a sleeping pill. This method is healthier way than to use sleeping pills.

Hello, just joined this morning, very interesting forum and posts. But ai do not see anything about my type of problem.

Falling aleep while in bed reading my book or somethingl The biggest problem I have at this time is falling asleep while i am in the bathroom; falling alseep while I m doing my business, then falling off the toilet and hitting my head on the wall, or what ever might be in my way. Right now I have this HUGE lump on the back of my head. Hubby wanted to take me to hospital to see if I have a concussion. I do not seem to have any of the symptoms of a concussionn, uther than the bump on my headl

This has been going on now for about a year. Wondering if anyone else out there has had this similar problem? Why is this happening? Also, I have sleeping problems at nite. can't seem to stay aleep, so I get up and then I am sleepy all day long. Try to watch my TV programs or do my craft projects and fall asleep right in the middle of them?

Any help out there??

Thank you all for your replys,  I understand that everyone feels that this is a good thing.

However, the rest of my post concerns me, why do I constantly fall asleep at other unappropriate times? Like in the middle of the nite in the restroom?  Probably my meds,, but oh well, will figure it out eventually.  Again, thanks for the insite and the kinds replys.  Till next time I need to discuss something.  I feel this is a great way to get all this stuff out of my system, as trying to talk to hubby does not help.  He just doesn't understand how it feels, to feel this way.  Do not get much support or help from him.  Working on that one also??

Donna

My father in law had this problem and he went to an eye doctor who said he was straining to read and the fatigue was causing him to fall asleep. He had his eyes examined and needed a new eyeglass prescription.
