I have had 3 sleep studies.  (Inever have difficulty sleeping anywhere even in hospital hooked up to all kinds of machines)  Each time I go forthe sleep study I am drowsy but even after the wires etc are attached to my body.

As soon as they attach the wires to the machine which sends all the information to the lab I am immediately awake and unable to sleep for the entire night.

Could there be electrical signals disturbing my sleep?  Help!!!

I had a similar experience where I could't sleep in the sleep lab. But for me, it was because they were asking me to come in at 9pm and be asleep by 10pm where I normally sleep at 3am.

I'm not sure about electrical signals jamming up your sleep but if its not the above, you can try starving yourself of sleep the day / night before the test.

Cheers!

Hi there,

this is a common problem. Understandably the anxiety of doing a sleep study can make it difficult to sleep. Not to mention all the equipment you are having to wear. If you don't sleep well during the sleep study you may well end up thinking you didn't sleep at all. The sleep study data will show the amount you actually slept and more often than not there is enough data for them to use.

This problem reminds me of the issues many people have when trying to get used to wearing CPAP. Unfortunately for some they never do get used to it. There are now oral devices for snoring and sleep apnoea made from chrome cobalt (Somnowell) that are more tolerable.

Good luck!
